Digital Photography and Photoshop

This four-session course is an introduction to photography for those who want to improve their digital pictures. Lecture portions will demonstrate, by example, the components of a good photograph. Topics to be covered include: the differences between digital and film photography, angle of view, composition, perspective/zoom, quality of light, flash & exposure compensation, white balance, file type and appropriate file sizes for specific uses. Read your camera manual thoroughly before the first class. Bring your camera and manual to each class. There will be a photography assignment each week to do on your own that will be used as a learning tool in the following class. Please email two of your good or bad photos in JPEG format to classes@DamianosPhotography.com before the first class.


Digital Photography – Intermediate Level


This four-session course is intended for those who are already familiar with their digital camera and basic image manipulation software and would like to take digital photography to the next level by enhancing images on the computer. Topics to be covered include workflow, file information (metadata), adjustment layers, masks, transforming, type, converting to B/W, retouching techniques using Photoshop and preparation for printing. Bring your camera and camera manual to the first class. There will be computer assignment each week to do on your own that will be used as a learning tool in the following class. The Digital Camera Demystified

This is a great workshop for beginning photographers, and for anyone wishing to understand just what all those controls on a digital camera really do. If you take this workshop, you'll be able to borrow one of the digital cameras at the BAC for your next project! If you have your own camera, bring it in along with the camera manual (make sure your batteries are fresh!)

Lighting For Portfolio Projects
What are appropriate lighting techniques to use when photographing small drawings, oversized drawings and 3-dimensional models? When should you use hot lights versus flash? Learn the answers to these questions and more during this hands-on workshop.

What is a hot light? Learn the advantages of using hot lights to photograph your next project, and the many ways to modify this type of light to create different lighting effects. A must for digital photographers!

Find out about one of the best lighting secrets in photography. Powerful studio flashes are great tools for photographing architectural models, products, people and spaces. Learn how to modify this light using a soft box and other techniques (while staying cool!) for your next photographic project.

Product Photography Workshop for Small Business Owners
Better photography can mean more sales. Learn how to create your own high quality digital photographs during this hands-on workshop. Introduction to Studio Photography (ages 14-17)

Saturdays 10:00am – 12:00pm, 8 Sessions

Learn the fundamentals of effective product, food, and still-life photography using strobe and hot light systems in the studio on a variety of backdrops. Using black-and-white film and digital cameras, students will shoot assignments in the studio each week. Accessories necessary for studio photography will also be reviewed.

Introduction to Darkroom Printing (ages 14-17)


Saturdays 12:30pm to 2:30pm, 8 sessions
In this introductory class, learn how to print and process all black and white film formats from 35mm to 4"x5". Learn techniques for dodging and burning a print, developing film, use of filters, and how to play with printing exposure, density, and contrast. Group critiques will promote student work and progress.
